Being in my early 20s made me realize how cringe and naive I was at 16, and eventually this made me more sympathetic with this type of stories. Like, Belly is still a child, she knows nothing about real love and the one, but we all pretend that yes, she has a point. And, let me tell you, it’s GOOD. It has all of the drama, angst, nostalgia, romance, and youthfulness you want and expect from a Young Adult series. It also has a “bad boy” versus “nice guy” love triangle. In the final chapter, We'll Always Have Summer, the trilogy reaches its heart-wrenching climax as Belly is faced with a life-altering decision. With her heart torn between two brothers, she must navigate the consequences of her choices and confront the lingering shadows of the past. The discussion surrounding consent in this book is actually appalling, almost to the point of being funny. We of course have Belly kissing C*nr*d when he’s clearly distressed and had rejected her the day before, but we also have Jeremiah kissing Belly even after she tried pushing him off, AND we have Belly going on a whole rant about asking for consent being “weird”. Overall, I'm honestly not even disappointed, I'm not even surprised. At least I just proved to myself that the show is so much better.

I'll just start off this rant review by saying that younger me would have eaten this up. Younger me who didn't care about characters or plot, younger me who just cared about the entertainment value. This is your typical 2010's YA contemporaries, and usually, I would have enjoyed that. My issues I have come in later. There is so much drama and literally no action. There's just jealousy, beaches, love triangles, bad characters, and nothing.
