Compared to some of the other air fryer models on the market, this Dash compact air fryer is fairly limited on the features it offers. Most air fryers are somewhere between 1,200 and 1,800 watts. Larger air fryers typically have more wattage and smaller models have less. Your midrange 4-quart air fryer should have about 1,500 watts. The small Magic Bullet and Gourmia air fryers have 1,300, but that's plenty of power to cook food in the petite basket. Larger air fryers should have about 100 more watts per quart to make sure they hit those hot temps of 400 to 450 Fahrenheit. What kind of accessories does an air fryer come with? Digital: If you prefer push-button technology, you'll have to pay a little more for a compact air fryer, but you will get more convenience when it comes to precision, presets, and memory function. Some of the digital models also include a remote. The downside of buying such a small air fryer is that you will usually need to power up your regular oven as well to achieve a full meal, which means you won't get to benefit from the energy savings delivered by large, family-size air fryers. The Dreo Aircrisp Pro Air Fryer was among the top three performers in speed and quality in each cooking test. If you're not interested in using your air fryer to dehydrate food or non-convection bake, save money by skipping these features. Some air fryers have presets for fries, wings, and more, but these presets aren't very accurate. You're better off setting the time and temperature yourself. Light: It’s important to know when the compact air fryer is operating. The most basic models have a light that lets you know when the power is on.

To put the Dash air fryer to the test, I crisped up some frozen naan. Before I started cooking, I realized that there was no way to air fry my piece of naan without breaking it in half. The bread simply didn’t fit in the very small air fryer basket. If you preheat the appliance before use, food will cook faster. To preheat, select desired temperature (see section “Temperature and Time Chart”) and turn the Timer Dial to 3 minutes; do not put any food in the Crisper Drawer. Wait until the Heating Light goes off (after approximately 3 minutes). Then fill the Crisper Drawer and turn the Timer Dial to the desired preparation time. Once you have set the desired temperature, press the start button to begin cooking. The air fryer will preheat to the set temperature before cooking the food. I tore the bread in half and somewhat awkwardly wedged it into the basket. I closed the drawer and set a timer for three minutes, after which point I figured I’d need to flip the bread. I set the temperature to 400°F (the highest option).
Compare to Similar Products
Size and capacity: If you plan to keep your air fryer on the counter, you don't want it to take up too much space. Look for a unit that's easy to store if you don't plan on keeping it out. A small air fryer should make efficient use of the footprint it requires. In general, we recommend the largest capacity that you can fit because it gives you more flexibility in what you can make.
