About this deal

So it was really nice to be able to have the harmonies, it wasn’t just my voice – I used to just always, it was my voice singing with my voice, because I had a lot of ideas, and that was cool.

And we ended up writing over FaceTime, because it was during COVID, and it was right before Thanksgiving, and everyone was getting COVID. The album’s context – the loneliness at the center of the pandemic – feels almost behind the times (partly because of the surfeit of covid-based releases over the past few years).I think there still is an awareness of, even if it’s immature, ‘You made me feel bad, so I want you to feel bad. After a week or so of not-so-cryptic teasing, French electro behemoths Justice have officially announced their new album Hyperdrama, simultaneously dropping not one but two lead tracks which have landed with a resounding THUD. The woodlands and the tillable acreage, I’ve been doing a lot of conservancy, like getting goats to clean out invasives.

L: And I know there’s an example like that that I should be giving you, and I cannot, for the life of me, pull it from my brain right now. In most cases we do not send full replacements for these types of issues, unless the damage is severe. But I think feeling your emotions is just such a theme of the album – I’m allowed to hurt – because you can’t go around it, you can’t skip it, you’ve gotta feel the feelings. L: When the pandemic started, I was actually living with my ex-partner, who was a farmer, like an actual organic farmer.Just when I feel there isn’t anything new to say about Lissie, she releases an album like Carving Canyons. This is clearly a song that comes from the heart and it’s impossible not to consider it one of the best out of the album. On “Unlock the Chains,” she sets herself free, and by the piano-led closer “Midnight,” Lissie is ready to go out into the world and rediscover herself. Of course, like pretty much every person, I adore her, and I think she’s just amazing, and I love her style and her voice.

With those experiences in mind and continued self-reflection, Lissie can pursue a way forward over the album’s final three songs. We are delighted to offer an exclusive pressing of her wonderful album on "Sage + White Marble" vinyl. The singer is angry at her past lover, she thinks about all the wrong things he did and she hopes he’s suffering only at the thought of her. Americana Highways spoke to Lissie about the importance of acknowledging that pain, the wisdom in writing with other women, and what her own, personal Song of the Summer was.

But it was REALLY awesome to not only be able to have these women I admired voices on my record, but to have it be on the songs that they helped create. Every Bandbox includes the album of your choice (from over 100 options) and an issue of our full-color 16-page fanzine, centered around your selected artist.Additional musicians on the album include Schneider (bass, keys, guitars), David Levita (guitars), Aaron Redfield (drums), Rob Humphreys (drums), Aaron Sterling (drums), David Palmer (drums), Michael Farrell (piano, keys), Patrick Warren (piano, keys), J’Anna Jacoby (violin), Tyler James (trumpet) and Diaz, Nagler, Kennedy, Buxton, York and Hemby (backing vocals). In response to this personal upheaval, nothing is diluted and everything Lissie has to say is striking and said loudly on Carving Canyons.
